EU releases the 2024 SRIP report with contributions from Science-Metrix
July 2024
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation has just published the Science, Research and Innovation Performance of the EU, 2024 (SRIP) report, its flagship report on the EU’s position within the global research and innovation landscape, to which Science-Metrix made several significant contributions, in particular to Chapter 3 on scientific knowledge production.
The SRIP report, published biennially, assesses how the EU’s R&I capacity can remain competitive on the world stage, especially in a time of unprecedented challenges such as the complex geopolitical landscape and climate change. Based on data-rich analyses coupled with an in-depth exploration of topical policy issues, the report identifies strengths and weaknesses the EU can use to inform planning and maintain a competitive edge.
Using Scopus data, Science-Metrix provided bibliometric analysis of scientific publications produced by the EU and global comparators. Science-Metrix also contributed to Box 3.2, which examines the use of ChatGPT in scientific publications. This analysis explores mentions of ChatGPT in scientific papers across fields, and the ways in which researchers are using ChatGPT in their research, including as a credited co-author.
Targeted at a wide audience, including policy-makers, government officials, and decision-makers, the SRIP report combines a robust, indicator-based analysis of R&I trends with a thorough discussion of their policy implications to achieve “a competitive Europe for a sustainable future.”
